Display freezers are usually found in retail shops for the display of frozen packaged produce like fish, frozen meat, and ice cream. The older style display freezers were horizontal open displays, but most modern display freezers are vertical and have triple glazed glass doors for energy efficiency.

Ice cream freezers are a unique type of freezer and have special requirements. The scoop freezers that hold 'tubs' of ice cream require very precise settings to maintain the ice cream at about minus 14°c, this temperature will maintain the ice cream so it is soft enough to scoop out into a cone for retail sales.
